Magrunner: Dark Pulse

Magrunner: Dark Pulse asks for more attention than a standard puzzle-adventure, because its whole trick is wiring the world through magnetism and using that system to move through test spaces. By our assessment, that is the part that gives it shape: the magnetic manipulation is concrete, readable, and more memorable than the usual switch-pressing. The downside is that the concept can feel rigid once the player has understood the rule set, since the game leans hard on one central idea and does not disguise that fact. In practice it is about lining up objects, thinking in spatial terms, and treating each room as a small mechanical problem. The mood is darker science fiction, so it sits closer to physics puzzlers like Portal in spirit than to open-ended action. That also means it is not asking for improvisation so much as careful execution, and the pleasure comes from making the system click. For players who like puzzle design with a strong gimmick, it has a clear appeal; for anyone wanting broad variety, the ceiling is fairly low.
