Lup is the sort of game that asks for patience first, because its name is all too easy to read as a small, spare idea rather than a noisy hook. By our assessment, that makes it feel better as a compact, low-key project than as something built to impress with scale. The upside of that approach is clarity: these smaller games often get straight to their one central idea and do not waste time dressing it up. The downside is equally plain, since a slim concept can run out of room fast if the mechanics do not keep growing. In practice, it is the kind of title that lives or dies on whether its core loop stays pleasant after the first novelty fades. Compared with larger indie releases, it sits on the modest end of ambition, and that is fine if the design is sharp enough.
