Lost Lands: Mahjong

Lost Lands: Mahjong uses mahjong tiles as the core of a casual puzzle adventure, so it is aimed at players who like matching sets more than racing a clock. By our assessment, its main strength is the familiar tile-matching rhythm: the board fills with layered pieces, and clearing them has that neat, methodical click of a good solitaire puzzle. The limit is also built into the format, because mahjong-style play can feel repetitive once the layout stops surprising you. In practice it is a calm, stop-and-start sort of game, easy to pick up for short stretches and easy to set aside again. It sits beside other hidden-object and casual mahjong titles rather than beside deep strategy games, and that makes its scope modest. Lost Lands: Mahjong is content with being a familiar puzzle wrapper, not a grand reinvention.
