Like a Dragon: Ishin!

Like a Dragon: Ishin! is the kind of spin-off that works because it knows exactly what fans want from the series: messy street combat, dramatic side business, and a historical setting wrapped around familiar brawling. By our assessment, the appeal is the contrast between samurai-era clothing and the same broad energy the series is known for, plus a combat system that gives you multiple ways to hit hard. The trade-off is that it still depends on long talk-heavy stretches and side activities, so the pacing can swing sharply between action and errands. In practice it feels busy, noisy, and full of systems, but those systems are layered in a way that rewards poking around. It sits well above a simple reskin and below the most ambitious mainline entries in scope. Like a Dragon: Ishin! is best for players who want series flavour in a different historical frame, and less for anyone who only wants a tight, minimal action game.
