Lichdom: Battlemage

Lichdom: Battlemage is a first-person fantasy combat game for players who want to cast spells as their main weapon instead of swinging steel. By our assessment, its clearest draw is the promise of being a mage from the ground up, with elemental powers doing the heavy lifting in fights. The trade-off is that this kind of game lives or dies on repeated spell use, so it can feel more focused than broad role-playing games and less varied than a full action RPG. In practice that means learning an ability set, chaining effects, and staying alert to positioning rather than just charging in. Against other fantasy action games, it stands out for making magic the centre of the whole loop. People who want that specific power fantasy may find the setup appealing, while anyone looking for deep questing or a sprawling world may want something else.
