Layers of Fear

Layers of Fear asks the player to keep moving through a haunted house of shifting rooms, broken memory, and things that are never quite where they seemed to be. By our assessment, it is a first-person horror game for people who want atmosphere, unreliable perception, and a steady sense that the space itself is turning against them. Its real strength is presentation: the game is built around visual tricks, unsettling sound, and the slow reveal of its psychological horror setup. The downside is familiar for this style of horror, since the experience leans more on walking, observing, and waiting for the next distortion than on complex play. In practice it feels like being pulled through a series of tense interiors, with the mood doing most of the heavy lifting. Compared with broader action horror, Layers of Fear is narrower and more curated, but that focus is also what gives it identity. It suits players who want mood and direction more than systems, and it stops making much sense once the atmosphere itself no longer does the work.
