Last Year

Last Year is built around the asymmetry horror games keep borrowing: a group of teens trying to survive versus a killer who controls the pressure. By our assessment, the appealing part is the cat-and-mouse setup, where hiding, timing, and map knowledge matter more than direct combat. The downside is that this kind of game lives or dies on balance and player coordination, so the tension can turn uneven fast. In practice it is about sneaking, listening, rushing objectives, and reacting to a threat that can swing the match in a second. Compared with polished horror multiplayer staples, it sits in a rougher, more niche corner of the genre. Last Year is for people who want tense multiplayer horror and do not mind the genre’s sharp edges; it offers very little to solo-minded players. The whole thing depends on whether the group keeps its nerve when the hunt starts.
