Krater is a squad-based post-apocalyptic RPG with real-time combat and the sort of scavenged equipment loop that asks you to keep tinkering with gear. By our assessment, its best trait is the mix of party control and loot-driven progression, which gives it a steady role-playing rhythm. The downside is that games of this type can become grindy and repetitive when the combat and mission structure do not keep changing much. In practice it feels like managing a rough crew, swapping weapons and items, then moving from fight to fight with a fair amount of busywork in between. Krater sits nearer to other action RPGs than to pure strategy, and the limit is how much patience you have for repetition in a damaged world.
