King of Retail

King of Retail puts the player in the role of running a store, so the draw is obvious: ordering stock, arranging shelves, setting prices, and keeping customers moving. By our assessment, that is the part it does best, because the loop of stocking and selling is concrete and easy to understand. The trade-off is that retail management can feel repetitive once the novelty of each task wears off. In practice, these games live on spreadsheets, menus, and a constant eye on numbers rather than on action. It sits in the same lane as other management sims, but with a more ordinary, shop-floor setting instead of a factory or city. The right audience is anyone who likes logistics and small optimizations, while people wanting story or fast dramatic turns will likely bounce off the routine.
