KELVIN looks like a small, idea-first game rather than something built to overwhelm with systems. By our assessment, it is the kind of title that lives or dies on a single mechanic and on how cleanly that mechanic is explained in play. That usually makes for a brisk, focused session, but it also means there is not much room for variety if the loop does not keep changing shape. The appeal is the pressure of a tight ruleset and the pleasure of learning it quickly. The limit is just as clear: once the central trick stops surprising you, the game has to stand on pure execution. KELVIN seems best for players who enjoy compact rules and clear feedback, and less so for anyone looking for a big campaign or a long list of systems to manage.
