Jolly Rover

Jolly Rover leans on point-and-click adventure comforts: dialogue, inventory use, and a cheerful pirate story wrapped around puzzle solving. By our assessment, its main strength is the tone, because it keeps the genre light and readable instead of sinking into self-seriousness. The downside is familiar for this kind of game, since the puzzles can depend on the usual adventure-game habits of combining items and trying odd solutions until one clicks. In practice it is the sort of game that rewards patience more than speed, with much of the pleasure coming from moving through scenes and taking in the jokes. Against other adventures it sits closer to the old LucasArts tradition than to action or exploration-heavy modern games. Jolly Rover is a good pick for players who want a friendly, puzzle-led adventure rather than a punishing one, and it is less convincing for anyone who dislikes inventory hunting.
