It Lurks Below

It Lurks Below is a survival action game for players who like digging, building, crafting, and pushing downward through dangerous underground layers. By our assessment, its strongest point is the steady pressure of resource gathering under threat, because every trip below the surface has to balance mining, food, gear, and monsters. The weakness is familiar to this kind of game: once the loop of gather, craft, fight, and descend is understood, repetition can take over. In practice it wants attention to inventory, terrain, and timing, with a lot of back-and-forth between safety and risk. It sits near the survival-crafting end of the action-RPG family, closer to a hostile underground sandbox than to a polished story adventure. It Lurks Below is best when the player enjoys constant upkeep and cautious exploration, and it loses some force if that busy management starts to feel like routine.
