Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye is the tile-laying game that turns bidding, road-building, and scoring into a tidy little puzzle around a growing landscape. By our assessment, its strength is the market-and-map tension: every round asks you to buy the right tiles and then connect them well enough to score, which keeps the whole table watching prices and positions. The downside is that the arithmetic and scoring can feel fiddly if you want something looser and more social. In practice it has the neat, deliberate rhythm of a game where one wrong purchase can shape the next few turns. It sits in the midweight end of modern gateway strategy, and the auctions are what give it its edge.
