Ionball 2: Ionstorm

Ionball 2: Ionstorm is a brick-breaker with a louder coat of paint, and that is pretty much the point. By our assessment, its best quality is the clear, immediate loop: bounce the ball, clear the field, grab power-ups, and keep the pace up while the screen fills with effects. The downside is the same one most brick-breakers face, which is that the idea can start to feel repetitive once the novelty of the presentation wears off. In practice it is a quick reflex game, easy to understand in seconds and mostly about reading angles and keeping control when things get busy. It sits in the arcade-puzzle corner rather than among deep systems games, so the appeal is compact and mechanical. The name itself signals that this is a follow-up, and the whole package leans on the familiar structure more than on surprise. Ionball 2: Ionstorm is for short bursts and simple score-chasing, not for someone looking for a long strategic climb.
