Impulse of War

Impulse of War usually promises a combat game that runs on quick decisions, pressure, and the give-and-take of battle rather than on long setup. By our assessment, that kind of design can be satisfying when every move has immediate weight and the battlefield does not give you much time to breathe. The honest downside is that speed can crowd out depth if the systems are too thin or the fights all feel alike. In practice, it tends to be a game of reacting, repositioning, and keeping pace with events as they unfold. Impulse of War belongs with other action-first war games, and it is for players who want momentum more than careful planning.
