ISLANDERS strips city building down to placement, spacing, and the quiet satisfaction of fitting structures into a small map. By our assessment, its real strength is how cleanly it turns planning into a score chase without asking for traffic webs, budgets, or long-term disaster control. The trade-off is that the game is intentionally spare, so there is little drama once the puzzle of a map has been solved. In practice it feels like arranging a compact model city and trying to squeeze one more good placement out of the remaining space. Compared with heavier builders, it is much lighter and less technical, but also tidier and easier to read at a glance. ISLANDERS rewards people who enjoy calm optimization and neat layouts, and it stops being interesting when someone wants the full mess of a traditional city sim.
