Hylics 2

Hylics 2 stands out because it treats role-playing like a collage of clay figures, odd dialogue, and turn-based battles that never try to look normal. By our assessment, that strange presentation is its real draw, and it gives even routine exploring a dreamlike texture that most RPGs never touch. The downside is that the game can feel deliberately slippery: its world makes sense more by mood than by clear explanation, so players who want tidy systems may bounce off it. In play it has the feel of wandering through a bizarre art object that also happens to be a game, with combat and exploration both kept simple enough to leave room for style. Against standard indie RPGs, it sits much closer to experimental art-game territory than to clean mechanical design. Hylics 2 is a good pick for people who like atmosphere and visual eccentricity more than strict gameplay clarity, and that oddness is the point.
