Howl

Howl is a turn-based tactical game whose battles are built around predicting enemy attacks and clearing out a red-ink folklore world one careful move at a time. By our assessment, its strongest quality is the way it turns the old story-book look into a real tactical problem: every action matters, and the board can punish overconfidence fast. The trade-off is clear as soon as the fight starts, because the game wants thought and planning more than improvisation or spectacle. In practice it feels measured and tense, with each turn asking for a small calculation instead of a big showy move. It sits comfortably among tactical indies that care about readable rules and sharp encounters rather than broad systems. Howl is best for players who like deliberate strategy, puzzle-like combat, and a strong visual identity, while people hoping for action-heavy battles may find it too slow and too exacting. The name fits the tone well, and the game keeps its focus on clean turns rather than noise.
