Hive Jump

Hive Jump asks for quick hands and a taste for repetition: it is a run-based action game about dropping into hostile areas, shooting through waves, and improving a little with each attempt. By our assessment, the strong part is the immediate arcade feel, where movement, aim, and short-session energy do most of the work. The limit is also built in, because this kind of design lives and dies on whether the loop stays lively after the novelty wears off. In practice it tends to be brisk, noisy, and fussy in the way many skill games are, with little room for drifting attention. It belongs with other mission-retry action games rather than with anything story-heavy or slow. Hive Jump suits players who like tight reflex play and do not mind starting over often, and it stops being interesting if they want a long, varied campaign instead.
