Hide and Shriek

Hide and Shriek is built around a narrow idea that makes sense right away: a short, spooky multiplayer duel where each side hides, searches, and tries to scare the other into a mistake. By our assessment, its strongest point is that it uses the hide-and-seek idea in a competitive, trick-heavy way rather than turning into another general horror game. The downside is obvious from the format: once the surprise and map knowledge settle in, the whole thing has a small ceiling and lives on repetition. In play it is quick, tense, and dependent on reading the other person’s habits more than on any long build-up. Against larger horror or multiplayer games, it is much more compact and much less ambitious, which is also why it can work for a quick session. The appeal is the cat-and-mouse pressure, not depth, and that is the limit of it.
