HEADLINER

HEADLINER turns newsroom work into a small management game, and the people who usually click with it are players who like making choices under pressure. By our assessment, its sharpest idea is the way every news story has a cost: what gets published, what gets ignored, and how a newsroom can drift toward one line or another. The downside is that the mechanics are narrow, so once the loop is clear the game depends more on consequences and repetition than on variety. In play it feels like arranging a day’s headlines while the world keeps pushing back through deadlines and public mood. That gives it a plain, tense texture that is very different from action or story-heavy games, and closer to a moral bookkeeping exercise than to a traditional sim. It is a good fit for people who want systems with editorial pressure, not for anyone looking for spectacle or mechanical depth that keeps opening out. The game’s size is part of the point, and the choices sit in the news list itself.
