HANGMAN survives because it asks almost nothing from a player and still manages to feel like a complete little word game. By our assessment, its strength is the clean loop of guessing letters, watching the hidden word open up, and having every wrong move matter. The downside is obvious too: once the pattern is clear, there is not much room for depth, so the game depends heavily on good word selection and the people playing it. In practice it is quick, tense, and often social, which is why it turns up in classrooms, party settings, and as a simple browser diversion. It sits in the oldest part of the word-game shelf, alongside paper-and-pencil puzzles and other low-tech guessing games. HANGMAN is best for a short mental warm-up, and it stops being interesting when the mystery is gone.
