Guacamelee! 2 is a side-scrolling action-platformer for players who like combat, traversal, and joke-heavy presentation all working together. By our assessment, it is strongest when it keeps mixing martial-arts brawling with wall-jumping, air-dashing, and the game’s riff on Metroidvania structure, because the movement rules stay lively while the fights keep changing shape. The downside is that the comedy and visual noise can be a lot if you want a plain, serious platform game. In practice it feels busy but controlled: you are always jumping, striking, and chaining movement through compact stages. It sits well above a bare-bones sequel because the formula already knows what it is doing, and the sequel simply pushes that louder. Guacamelee! 2 is a cleaner fit for players who enjoy action-platformers with personality than for anyone looking for slow exploration.
