Grimm's Hollow

Grimm's Hollow turns its small size into part of the design, using a short RPG structure, simple exploration, and turn-based fights to tell a ghost story that stays focused. By our assessment, its strongest point is the mood: the art, the quiet pacing, and the way it treats death and the afterlife give it a tone that feels more personal than flashy. The downside is obvious enough, because the combat and systems are deliberately modest, so anyone looking for a dense RPG build will find little to chew on. In practice it is easy to take in, with a lot of walking, talking, and light battle management rather than complex character building. Against larger indie RPGs, it sits on the leaner end and gets by on atmosphere instead of mechanical depth. It works best when a short, melancholy story is enough, and the limits are set by how much system you want around that story.
