Gothic 3

Gothic 3 is an open-world fantasy role-playing game for players who like wandering, faction politics, and a world that does not hurry to explain itself. By our assessment, its strongest quality is scale: towns, wilderness, and faction conflicts give it a roomy, rough-edged feel that people remember even when they argue about its polish. The trade-off is a familiar one for this kind of RPG, because the systems can feel loose and the early hours ask for patience while quests, combat, and navigation settle into place. In practice it is a lot of walking, talking, fighting, and deciding whom to please, with the world often feeling more important than the main thread. Compared with more guided fantasy RPGs, it is less tidy and less friendly, but also less boxed in by handholding. Gothic 3 stays interesting for the same reason it can frustrate: it lets the player inhabit a big, messy province instead of a neat theme park.
