Gauntlet

Gauntlet is the classic arcade dungeon crawler built for cooperative hacking through rooms full of enemies, keys, and pressure, and that is still the reason people remember it. By our assessment, its strength is the clean, immediate loop: move, fight, grab resources, keep going, with constant time pressure that makes every room matter. The trade-off is that it is deliberately thin on story and character depth; this is about pace and shared survival, not about role-playing layers. In practice it can feel frantic, noisy, and slightly cruel in the old arcade way, which is exactly why it has a place in the genre’s history. Compared with modern dungeon crawlers, it is simpler and harsher; compared with beat-’em-ups, it is more about routes and attrition than crowd spectacle. Gauntlet remains the sort of game that shows how co-op action can work when the screen itself is part of the challenge.
