Freedom Planet

Freedom Planet asks for quick fingers and a taste for old-school speed runs, because it is a platformer built around momentum, chaining moves, and blasting through stages rather than stopping to think. By our assessment, it is strongest when it lets Lilac and the rest of the cast keep their pace, slip through routes, and bounce off enemies in that Sonic-like way without feeling like a copy. The trade-off is that this kind of design can be slippery: missed jumps and rushed inputs punish you fast, and the game cares more about flow than about calm exploration. In practice it plays like a bright, loud sprint with bosses, hidden routes, and a lot of movement tech packed into short levels. It sits closer to classic mascot platformers and modern indie tributes than to slower precision games. The pixel-art style and fast combat give it personality, and the ceiling is mostly the player’s ability to keep up with the speed.
