Fortnite changed what a live-service shooter can be by folding a battle royale, building, and a huge cosmetics economy into one fast-moving game. By our assessment, that mix is still its biggest strength: matches move quickly, the building system gives it a sharp skill ceiling, and the social side keeps it active for players who want a game that keeps changing around them. The downside is also part of the package: the game can feel busy, demanding, and full of layers that are not all equally appealing to every player. In practice it is all about movement, aim, improvisation, and keeping up with a shifting map and changing rules. Fortnite sits above most standard shooters in scope, but it is not a clean competitive arena in the old sense. It suits people who like a game that keeps adding new things to learn and does not mind a lot of visual noise.
