Fears to Fathom - Carson House works because it understands how little a horror game needs when the goal is dread, not combat. By our assessment, its strength is the everyday setting and the first-person walk-through of a house that keeps turning ordinary rooms into a source of tension. That makes the experience feel immediate and close, with the fear built out of sounds, pacing, and what is just off-screen. The downside is familiar for short horror: once the mood is spent, the structure has limited room to expand. In practice it plays more like a tense story walk than a systems-heavy game. It sits with the indie episodic horror branch rather than with big survival-horror machines. Fears to Fathom - Carson House is the sort of thing to reach for when atmosphere matters more than mechanics.
