Far Cry 5 puts the usual open-world shooter formula in a rural American cult conflict, and the result is both familiar and tense. By our assessment, it is good at making the player bounce between outposts, hunting, fishing, side activities, and bursts of gunfire without much friction. The downside is that the structure still leans on the standard Far Cry rhythm, so the map can start to feel like a chain of errands once the novelty wears off. In practice it is all about stealth, open firefights, and helping the resistance chip away at hostile territory. Compared with other entries in the series, Far Cry 5 is less about exotic locations and more about the pressure of its setting, which gives the familiar loop a different flavour. It suits people who want an accessible shooter world to roam in, but not those looking for a radical break from the series formula.
