Far Away

Far Away is a small, quiet game title that usually points to mood first and systems second, and that is where the appeal tends to sit. By our assessment, the value of a game like this is usually in atmosphere, distance and pacing rather than in complex combat or large-scale strategy. The downside is the same one many understated games face: if the mood does not land, there may not be much mechanical weight left to carry it. In practice that means a slower, more reflective rhythm and a stronger dependence on the game’s visual and sound design. It sits away from loud action titles and from busy management games, which is part of the point. Far Away is the sort of thing people reach for when they want a calmer experience with room to look around, and it is not trying to compete on mechanical depth.
