Fantasy Grounds Classic

Fantasy Grounds Classic asks for setup time and a tolerance for rules handling, because it is a virtual tabletop built for running tabletop roleplaying games, not for casual pick-up play. By our assessment, its strongest point is how much it can do for a long-running campaign: maps, tokens, character sheets, dice, and the bookkeeping that comes with a table full of rules. The downside is the obvious one, since that same depth makes it feel old-school and fussy compared with lighter virtual tabletops. In practice it is the sort of tool where the group spends time learning the interface, arranging modules, and keeping the session moving inside a fairly dense rules environment. Compared with newer, cleaner alternatives, it sits on the heavier end of the category and still has a loyal reputation among people who want system support more than polish. It is a tool for organized groups and game masters who value structure, and its screen is crowded in exactly the way a serious tabletop assistant usually is.
