Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is the Fallout game for people who want an online Appalachia, scavenging runs, base building, and shared events instead of a purely solo wasteland. By our assessment, its best quality is the size of the world and the steady loop of exploring, looting, crafting, and slowly improving a camp. The downside is that it is still an online live-service game at heart, so the mood depends on servers, other players, and how much repetition you will tolerate. In practice it feels like Fallout systems stretched into a social routine, with the usual wandering, junk collection, and perk tinkering carried into a multiplayer frame. Compared with the older single-player entries, it is less tight in story and character work, but more open-ended in how you occupy the map. Fallout 76 rewards people who enjoy routine survival and building; the quest for a clean solo role-playing arc is not its main business.
