Fallout 2: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game is the big, talk-heavy isometric RPG for players who want scavenging, dialogue choices and consequence-laden wandering across a ruined world. By our assessment, its strength is the amount of character it squeezes into quests, factions and odd encounters; the game is remembered as much for its writing and freedom as for its turn-based fights. The downside is that its old interface, pacing and combat can feel clunky beside newer role-playing games. In practice it asks for patience with reading, inventory work and a world that does not hold your hand. Compared with modern open-world RPGs, it is rougher but sharper in personality, and the number 2 in the name is part of the title, not a score. It fits players who want classic computer RPG structure more than spectacle.
