Faces of War

Faces of War is strongest when it asks the player to think like a battlefield commander rather than a base-builder. By our assessment, its appeal comes from direct control of units, cover use, and the feeling that infantry, armor, and terrain all matter at once. The trade-off is that this makes it more demanding than a simple strategy game, because bad positioning can punish you fast and the interface expects attention. In practice it plays like a series of tense tactical pushes, with a lot of micromanagement and very little room for lazy habits. Compared with larger real-time strategy games, it is less about economy grids and more about immediate battlefield decisions. Faces of War suits players who want tactics close to the ground, and it is less friendly to anyone looking for a broad empire layer.
