FINAL FANTASY II is remembered less for polish than for the strange way it lets characters grow: the game leans on actions and stat gains instead of a simple level-up ladder. By our assessment, that makes it interesting as an early role-playing experiment, even if the system can feel awkward and open to abuse in ways later entries avoided. It sits closer to a historical curiosity than to the smoothest Final Fantasy, but it matters because so many later series habits were not yet fixed here.
