FATE belongs to the old-style dungeon-crawling RPG tradition, where the main pleasure is going downward through random dungeons, fighting monsters, and picking up gear as you go. By our assessment, that straightforward loop is exactly why it still has an audience: it is easy to understand, quick to start, and comfortable for players who like loot-driven combat without a lot of fuss. The cost is repetition, because the same structure can start to feel samey once the dungeon rhythm is clear. In practice it is the kind of game you play in short stretches, with a lot of clicking and a steady stream of small upgrades.
