F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin keeps the series’ gunfights tied to the kind of creepy setup that made the first game memorable: slow movement through offices, lots of narrow interiors, and sudden bursts of combat that push you to watch corners instead of just charging ahead. By our assessment, it is still a strong horror shooter because the shooting and the atmosphere keep working together instead of fighting each other. The downside is that this style can feel very scripted, with set-piece scares and corridor pacing doing a lot of the work. In practice it plays like a tense march from one bad room to the next, with weapons and psychic tricks carrying most of the pressure. Compared with looser modern shooters, it is more directed and less free. It suits people who want action wrapped in dread, not players looking for open-ended experimentation.
