Executive Assault 2 mixes base building and combat in a way that speaks to players who like one foot in strategy and the other in direct control. By our assessment, its most interesting trick is that it lets the player manage a larger battlefield while still dropping into the action side of the fight, so the experience is busier than a plain RTS and more layered than a simple shooter. The cost is complexity: that mix asks for attention to economy, unit production, and moment-to-moment fighting at the same time. In practice it can feel rough at first, because the game has to teach two modes of thinking, not one. Executive Assault 2 sits closer to hybrid strategy than to clean genre purity, and that is exactly why it stands out.
