Etrian Odyssey HD

The appeal of Etrian Odyssey HD is how clearly it keeps the old dungeon-crawling idea intact: draw maps, manage a party, and push through dangerous floors one step at a time. By our assessment, that makes it a good fit for players who like planning, manual mapping, and turn-based party building more than fast spectacle. Its real strength is the series’ old-school pressure, where every new corridor and every resource check matters. The downside is just as clear: this style asks for patience and attention, and the map-drawing idea can feel fussy if someone wants the game to do that work automatically. In practice it is methodical, sometimes tense, and very aware of every choice the player makes. Etrian Odyssey HD sits well above generic dungeon RPGs because it preserves the hand-drawn map feel instead of sanding it off. It is a remake for people who want that specific design, not a broad modern reset.
