Eschalon: Book II

Eschalon: Book II is for players who want old-school party-free role-playing with a strong emphasis on exploration, quests, and character building. By our assessment, its best quality is the plain, readable structure of a classic indie CRPG: you travel through a large world, fight in turn-based encounters, and slowly shape a build that matters. The downside is that this style asks for patience and a taste for stat-heavy progression, so it will feel stiff to people who want modern hand-holding. In practice it has that deliberate, map-reading, note-taking rhythm that old computer RPGs often have. Compared with flashier fantasy games, Eschalon: Book II is less about spectacle and more about methodical role-play, which is exactly why some players will value it.
