Eaten Alive

Eaten Alive is a slasher built around a swampy, relentless mood rather than tidy logic, and that is exactly where its appeal sits. By our assessment, it works because it commits to grindhouse horror and lets the setting do a lot of the talking, with the hotel-and-swamp nightmare taking over the frame. The obvious limit is that it is a very direct piece of exploitation cinema: style and sleaze matter more than character depth or clean plotting. In practice it feels rough, feverish, and narrow in purpose, which is either the point or the barrier depending on taste. Against more polished horror films, it is messier and meaner, but also more distinctive as a pure mood piece. Eaten Alive is the kind of title people reach for when they want nasty atmosphere first and refinement nowhere near the top of the list.
