Dwarves & Dungeons

Dwarves & Dungeons sounds like it wants to be a small-scale fantasy tactic game, and that is exactly the kind of thing its audience usually wants. By our assessment, the appeal is in managing short missions, compact teams, and the familiar dwarf-and-delving fantasy rather than in a huge strategic canvas. Its best side is probably the clear theme: mining, tunnels, monsters, and a party that fits the name without needing much explanation. The limit is the same one that hits many modest tactics games, because once the roster and scenarios are understood, there may not be much room left for surprise. In practice, this sort of game asks for planning, patience, and a willingness to revisit similar fights or dungeons. Compared with sprawling strategy titles, it sits closer to a focused indie tactics package. It is the sort of thing that works when a player wants a neat fantasy system rather than a grand campaign.
