Duck Season is built around a simple but clever premise: a retro-looking shooting game that keeps folding into a stranger horror story. By our assessment, that mix is what gives it real identity, because it uses the look of an old light-gun duck hunt to set up unease instead of comfort. The downside is that the surprise works best when the player goes in knowing little, so the game lives heavily on timing, mood, and discovery. In practice it can feel playful one minute and uneasy the next, which is exactly why it sticks in memory more than a standard parody would. It sits closer to experimental horror than to a normal arcade throwback, and the stronger the player wants the twist to land, the better the fit. Duck Season is at its best when that old-school wrapper starts to feel unsafe.
