By our assessment, that is still its best trick, because it makes the player feel involved in solving problems rather than just picking from preset options. The limit is that the novelty depends on the drawing gimmick, so once the structure is familiar, the surprise is smaller and the rest has to carry the game. In practice it should feel playful, direct, and a little improvised, which is a nice change from more rigid adventure games.
