Dominion

Dominion is a deck-building card game for people who like building an engine under pressure, with each turn spent buying, thinning, and chaining cards into something faster. By our assessment, that structure is its big strength: the setup changes from game to game, the kingdom cards create real variety, and the best turns feel like a small machine coming together in your hand. The downside is that it asks for attention to card text and to what other players are building, so a distracted table can make it feel flat. In play it is mostly about reading the market, timing purchases, and watching your deck improve over a few turns, not about drama or theme. Compared with many later deck-builders, it is the one that made the form look clean and modern. It suits players who enjoy tactical card economy and repeated play, and less so anyone wanting a strong story or table talk. The name still matters because so many modern card games borrow its shape.
