Dicefolk

Dicefolk turns tactics into a dice-driven creature battle, so the people who usually reach for it are the ones who like planning turns, building a team, and living with a bit of luck in the middle. By our assessment, its best feature is that mix of control and randomness: you are not just picking attacks, you are shaping outcomes through dice and creature abilities. The downside is the obvious one for a game built this way, because a bad roll can make a smart plan feel rough for a moment. In practice that gives each fight a tense, board-game-like feel where every turn has to be read and then adjusted. Compared with flatter roguelike tactics, Dicefolk has a more playful shape and a clearer identity. It is strongest for players who enjoy systems that ask for thought without becoming dry, and less so for people who hate any luck in their strategy game.
