Democracy 3

Democracy 3 is a management and simulation game about steering a modern government through policies, interest groups, and competing priorities. By our assessment, its real appeal is the systems thinking: it lets the player see how welfare, taxes, law and order, education, and other policy levers push one another around. The downside is that this kind of civics sandbox can feel dry and spreadsheet-like, because the fun comes from reading graphs and balancing pressure, not from dramatic scenes. In practice it is more about careful adjustment than theatrical action, and that makes it slower than most strategy games people first think of. Compared with lighter political games, it is more detailed and less playful; compared with pure spreadsheets, it is still a game with visible consequences. Democracy 3 suits players who enjoy policy puzzles and can live with the fact that the model matters more than the drama.
