Death and Taxes

Death and Taxes turns paperwork into the whole point, which is why it lands with players who like management games that are more about sorting than spectacle. By our assessment, its appeal comes from the unusual job it asks you to do: making judgments, moving names through a bureaucratic flow, and living with the consequences of those calls. That gives it a dry, darkly comic feel that stands apart from the usual farming-and-building comfort of the genre. The downside is obvious enough: this is a game of routine, menus, and repeated decisions, so the pace can feel rigid once the joke and the loop are familiar. In practice it plays like a desk job with rules and deadlines, only with more moral pressure than most desk jobs. It sits nearer to other minimalist management games than to action or story-first adventures, and Death and Taxes suits people who enjoy systems more than spectacle.
