Das Balkonzimmer

Das Balkonzimmer sounds like a game built around a small room and the social pressure that lives inside it, so the appeal is likely in mood, not spectacle. By our assessment, that kind of setup can be sharp when it uses one place well and lets ordinary interactions carry the weight. The downside of a confined premise is that it can feel narrow if the writing or mechanics do not keep finding new angles. In play, games like this tend to live or die on conversation, timing and tiny changes in tone. Compared with bigger narrative games, Das Balkonzimmer seems to sit on the intimate end of the scale, with less interest in breadth than in closeness. It is a name that should suit players who like small-scale, character-first games, and it will not be for anyone who needs constant systems or big set pieces.
